Introduction
[ NOTE: A lot of folks ask me about removing the cruise control, and so I copied this post, which is I found the original info. Original poster is our own Vern Vanover, and the source is DSMTalk. Hope it helps you! ].
Installing non-cruise throttle cable
"I don't have a 2g Jeremy, but maybe some of it is the same and since I just did this on my '91, I'll post some info for the people that occasionally search, hehe.
"On a '91, you are gonna need a 1G non-cruise control throttle cable, Mitsu part # MB539465. It's $30 at Conicelli, which BTW has great, fast service.
"First get under your dash and pop out the yellow plastic "plug" that is in/at the top of the accelerator pedal's linkage. [ Note: this can be a ROYAL bitch! You may want to just destroy your old throttle cable, since it doesn't need to go back in, right? ]
Then pull out the two bolts at the firewall, in the engine bay, for the cable mount.
"Then pull the three bolts that hole the CC unit to the firewall. The CC unit is right smack in the middle of the firewall, behind the intake mani. There is a vacuum hose that goes to this unit for the vacuum pump. It goes to the cc actuator, so don't worry about it.
"Now remove the two bolts for the throttle cable bracket on the back, at the top of the intake mani. Then pull the throttle cable end up, to line up the cable end with the slot in the TB linkage and push it out sideways to remove the cable end from the TB linkage. It is easier than it sounds.
"Now pull the two fuel rail bolts, that hold the two cables down to the head, out.
Over by the driver's side strut tower, towards the front of the car, there is the "cruise control actuator," kinda looks like a ball. Remove the two small bolts holding it in place and pull everything out in one piece.
Have beer, install non-cc throttle cable. j/k
"You are gonna have to reuse the two brackets that held the two cables onto the head. They were designed to hold two cables, now you only have one. So cut it in half, so that it'll only hold one cable. When you look at them, you'll see what I mean. Very easy, even with just a hacksaw and a small file to smooth the edges.
"Push the pedal end, with the yellow plastic plug, thru the firewall hole and bolt the small brass looking bracket to the firewall. First thing you're gonna notice here is that the old CC cable made an immediate turn towards the driver's side and went to the cruise control actuator. The non-cruise cable isn't the same way, it "turns" towards the passenger side and then the cable circles back around the intake mani. So make sure it is oriented so that the brass bracket part is curving towards the passenger side before you bolt it down.
"Now crawl up under the dash again, pull the yellow plastic connector to the cable's end. Now slide the cable into the slot at the pedal linkage top, pull it down a little past the slot and press the plastic connector down into place.
"Route the cable around the intake mani and to the two bolts that hold the bracket to the intake mani. Loosely bolt in place and don't forget to make sure that the ground wire is reconnected there too.
"Now grab your two cut brackets, kinda line up the bolt holes and push them onto the cable. Reinstall the two bolts thru the brackets and thru the fuel rail into the head. Only use 7-9 ft/lbs on those two bolts!
"Reconnect the end of the cable to the TB linkage. Snug up the two bolts for the bracket on the intake mani. Start her up and verify that the throttle plate opens 100%, the idle speed is good, the idle switch makes contact, etc. Loosen up the two bolts and adjust if necessary to reobtain a good idle. Looking at ISC steps here on the logger helps alot. Do not adjust your BISS, if everything was fine with idle before this "mod!" Adjust the cable bracket until it's right! Have another beer.
